Despite the threat of floods and bolts of destruction from the sky, we HAD a great Market last week!!  We were all in the Parish hall, warm, safe, dry, and sharing great fellowship, jokes and tall tales, all while listening to great music from newcomer, Jessica Crum. If you missed her, come back this week, she’ll be doing it again.

If you’d like to be part of the fun and  camaraderie while buying good locally produced and grown foodstuffs as well other items then come join us this week and every week for the rest of the season at MGM, Fridays from 3-6: P.M. You’ll find nice, friendly folks who are warm and welcoming. They tend to look you in the eye, speak to you with sincerity, and gladly answer any questions that you might have about themselves, their products, and how and where they were produced, grown or made. No secrets here, just good old fashioned service and healthy products. Not much of that left in the shopping world today. Everyone’s in such a hurry and sometimes not so overly concerned about what your needs are. Come, slow down with us. We care.

The folks at the Market Cafe will be cooking up some great vittles again this week. Stop in at the Parish hall to see them and grab a snack or beverage; or, better still, take a break from cooking dinner this Friday and try their weekly dinner special.

As I stated above, Jessica Crum will be back at the music tent this week. She’ll be covering a wide variety of musical numbers as well as performing some of her own compositions. Come give a listen.

While you’re at the market, please stop at the  MGM booth and introduce yourself. You’ll find it supplied with lots of info, market swag, friendly folks, custom made MGM aprons, and a full line of new Market tee-shirts for the season. We also have MGM gift certificates for sale at the booth. They make great small gifts for many occasions.

Consider picking up some raffle tickets at the MGM booth for the Mansfield Free Public Library basket raffle—27 different baskets to bid on, 3 of them being MGM baskets, loaded with gift certificates and other goodies from many of your favorite MGM vendors and Friends. Take a chance, support a great cause, and hopefully win a great prize! If you’ve been putting off the purchase of those tickets, act fast!! This is the last week you’ll be able to get them at the Market!

Unfortunately, Hillstone will not be at the Market this week. They hope to return next week. We’ll keep you informed.

Here’s a list of the scheduled vendors for the week:

Andy will be there from Spring Meadows Farm with lots of pastured eggs and wild watercress! It’s a great spring tonic! Think about the salad you could make with some of the other greens available at the market.

Cliff will bring a variety of Running Bear spring greens from his high tunnel, as well as chickens and chicken parts from his first batch of the season. He’ll also have lamb products and the first kohlrabi of the season this week.

It’s all about Rhubarb at the Yorkshire Meadows booth this week with strawberry rhubarb jam, strawberry rhubarb crunch dessert and those amazing rhubarb dream bars. Also try one of the large shortbread cookies half dipped in chocolate.  The regular fare of scones, cookies and curd will be there too.  DSCN2916 Ray from Udder Merry Mac had a problem and needed to miss last week. Let’s hope things are back on track and that he’ll be able to be here this week. His lettuces are so beautiful you’ll want to display them instead of eating them.

Jeff, from Between two Rivers and maybe Sally as well will be there with maple products from the 2014 sap run. If you like to converse, Jeff’s your man, with lots of great stories to share.

The Herb Corner is planning on bringing a variety of herbs and veggie plants, including peppers and tomatoes, for your veggie or herb gardens. These aren’t your big box store starter plants. They’ve been grown from seed and nurtured to perfection by Diane and Phil. Believe me, there is a difference; you get what you pay for. They will also have fresh cut herbs, freshly picked spinach/chard mix, and lettuce. Check out their hanging nasturtium and mint variety baskets. They’re beautiful and make great gifts. Claire and I are bringing one to a friend for her birthday.

Always Somethin’ Farm will be there with their wonderful goats milk products and a limited amount of ASPARAGUS!!!! Get ‘em while they last! Best spears around, without a doubt.

Donna will be at the Basically Bagels booth selling great bagels, cookies and more. If you have a hankering for a great cookie, make sure you get to her booth ASAP; they go fast.

Shannon and Erin will have breads, cookies, biscotti, fresh salsa (red and green), and more. Stop by their booth and say hello.DSCF5337

Let’s all wish and hope for SUN this Friday! Rain or shine, we hope that you’ll come to MGM and spend some quality time with a friendly crowd, grab a bite to eat from the Market Cafe, and go home with some healthy, quality products. We’ll be there. Come join us!

Hope to see you at the MGM located at the Saint James Episcopal Church located in Mansfield, Pa. on Wellsboro Street, one block east of the downtown light. Look for our signs.

David Brown,

MGM Manager
